Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium isolated from a healthy individual

This  is the first case reported of a healthy individual who carried a Salmonella sp.bacteria that carried the mcr-1 plasmid.  This variant confers resistance to colistin and reminds us of the case of Typhoid Mary. Also, this is an example of the growing reach of this resistance factor into a not uncommonly encountered gram negative pathogen. Read the report here.
